Validating an ip address in a bash script Chat sex asian online free 100

It works, but as with regular expressions, it's introducing a second language where I hope to avoid using one. /bin/bash # Test an IP address for validity: # Usage: # valid_ip IP_ADDRESS # if "$ip" =~ (([01][0-9]|2[0-4][0-9]|25[0-5])\.([01][0-9]|2[0-4][0-9]|25[0-5])\.([01][0-9]|2[0-4][0-9]|25[0-5])\.([01][0-9]|2[0-4][0-9]|25[0-5]))$ ; then echo "success" else echo "fail" fi #!the above wont work in script because the execution is continuous...so the shell script keeps will dwell in this pinging process...

It works, but as with regular expressions, it's introducing a second language where I hope to avoid using one.

/bin/bash # Test an IP address for validity: # Usage: # valid_ip IP_ADDRESS # if $?

Preferably a reasonably common tool that can be used to do-so.

I'd like to avoid using other languages such as Python to do this, as I am in fact hoping to replace a current solution which is to use PHP's function.

-eq 0 ; then echo good; else echo bad; fi # OR # if valid_ip IP_ADDRESS; then echo good; else echo bad; fi # function valid_ip() #!

/bin/bash ip="2.100" if "$ip" =~ (([01][0-9]|2[0-4][0-9]|25[0-5])\.([01][0-9]|2[0-4][0-9]|25[0-5])\.([01][0-9]|2[0-4][0-9]|25[0-5])\.([01][0-9]|2[0-4][0-9]|25[0-5]))$ ; then echo "success" else echo "fail" fi #!

the above wont work in script because the execution is continuous...

However, unix and linux clearly understand IP addresses well enough, so I'm wondering if there is a better way that I can validate IP addresses in bash?
